assignment 01 - installation

hi to all,

in this blog Im going to share with you my decision making process and hopefully i'll understand it too....

so, for the first assignment i began with thinking about what is "NEIGHBORING"? i asked my self what terms i associate with the idea of neighbor/ neighborhood. after thinking for a while on these terms, i understood that in the context of the relationship between arabs and jews in jerusalem, neighboring is a process. A process of building trust, a process of getting to know each other, a process of acceptance and many more process that should take place before we can really live together on this peace of earth.
after understanding that, i went on to design my installation. i wanted to express the process of becoming neighbors first by setting borders - so everyone could understand which place is which and under whom authority, because for me relationship with people starts with respecting each other borders and latter setting joined borders.
any way, after that i wanted to express the term "process" by designing a passage that goes throw those defined borders and allows the ones using it to look and learn about the other.
i think that a if a man learns every day a little about the other, he will feel more comfortable with him and not fear the different because now he is no longer a total stranger.
the process goes on and the idea is to develop several paths with different levels of exposure, so one can choose the degree of intimacy he want to have with his neighbors.
another important part of my installation is the main square and the minor ones, they are open spaces with no walls and no fences that enable all kind of activities and are being watched from the passage. the squares symbolizes and express equality and i would like them to function as a place for meeting and getting to know the other and thus establish neighboring relationship between neighbors...
